BBL Photo Facial in Portland
What is an BBL Photofacial?
Many skin care professionals agree that BBL is the gold standard of photofacial skin rejuvenation. Largely seen as the safer option, BBL can treat sun spots, age spots, spider veins, active acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and more, all while being non invasive and requiring no downtime. Creating a change at a molecular level is what sets BBL apart from IPL. But with any skin treatment, a consultation with a professional will help determine exactly what would be best for you.
WHAT IS IPL?
How Does It Work?
An IPL® facial administers high-intensity light energy that gently heats the layers of your skin. The heat stimulates cell turnover and new cell development, which helps to eliminate lines, wrinkles, age spots, and many other concerns. An IPL® photo rejuvenation facial treatment also helps with tiny vessels and areas of hyperpigmentation.
What Does an IPL® Photofacial Treat?
As a face treatment, IPL® helps with:
- Age spots
- Freckles
- Lines and wrinkles
- Rough skin
- Dull complexion
- Rosacea
- Hyperpigmentation
- Small visible blood vessels
- Sagging skin
What Areas Can IPL® Therapy Be Used to Treat?
IPL® photo rejuvenation is approved by the FDA for use on the face, hands, back, and chest. These are the areas where sun damage is most common.

What to Expect During an IPL® Treatment
A handheld device is used for skin rejuvenation with IPL®. The high-intensity light energy is applied in short bursts, and you may feel a sensation that is similar to a small pinch on your skin. If you have any discomfort, we can apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area.
How Many Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
You may see an improvement in skin tone and texture after just one treatment. Additional photo rejuvenation facials may be required based on the desired results and the nature of your skin problems.
What Can I Expect from Recovery?
Photo facial recovery is very short-term. Right after the procedure, your skin may a mild redness, and your skin may feel sensitive. The symptoms may last a few hours or up to five days. New, healthy skin cells start to emerge within 48 to 72 hours. It may take several weeks for your age spots, hyperpigmentation, and broken capillaries to disappear.

IPL® Photofacial Recovery Timeline
For the first four to six hours, your skin feels sensitive, and it may sting the same way as when you have a mild sunburn. You can apply a cold compress to your face to help with any discomfort. Be sure not to put pressure on your skin. Swelling can last for up to three to five days. During your recovery, there are steps you should take to ensure the possible results of the treatment. Avoid using moisturizer and makeup for the first day. If you have swelling, wait for it to subside before using these types of products. You’ll need to use high-quality moisturizer for three months after the treatment. We will recommend professional skincare that will protect your skin and promote proper healing from your IPL® facial treatment.
