Microneedling in Portland, Oregon

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles and creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin to induce collagen and elastin to your skin. As a result you have improved texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, wrinkles, and stretch marks.

Microneedling what does it treat?

  • Improve and reduce wrinkles, fine lines and minimize pore size.
  • Stimulate collagen production which promotes rejuvenation of skin
  • Improve the appearance of surgical, traumatic, burn, and acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • It may also improve appearance of stretch marks

Microneedling how does it work?

Controlled “micro injuries” are created in the skin which triggers new collagen synthesis. Basically, your skin is stimulated to produce its own collagen and elastin cells. Microneedling also creates superficial micro-channels which can be used for administration of a variety of products like topical gels, serums, creams, stem cells, vitamins, etc. The products are thus absorbed more effectively into the skin. Specific treatment products can be selected to receive greater and faster results. During the procedure what you may feel is the sensation as if light sandpaper is moved across the skin. Some patients describe the sensation as similar to the feel of a cat’s tongue. Some areas are more sensitive than others.

We use only sterile single-use disposable needle tips. There is absolutely no potential for cross contamination between patients. Adjustable needle penetration depths allow our specialists choose a custom treatment for your specific skin problems and preferences for treatment approach (light, moderate, or aggressive).

The SkinPen is used in the procedure and remodels the collagen without heat. Since there is no heat, the treatment is rather safe and comfortable with a very low complication rate.

Am I a good candidate for Microneedling?

Anyone who wants to see improvement in acne scarring, and pitting on the skin is a good candidate. Patients who want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve the overall appearance of their skin will benefit from the procedure.

What is the Microneedling down time?

Immediately after the treatment you will notice redness to the skin. It may look like a sunburn. The total healing time depends on the microneedling setting used and the number of overlapping passes. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. You will treat your skin gently and refrain from retinol containing products and chemical exfoliants for about a week.

What are the Microneedling results and when will I see them?

Patients notice a “glow” to their skin after a few days. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues. Depending on the skin condition, patients looking for correction for acne scarring or reduced lines may be recommended to receive a series of 6-8 treatments.
